Coweta Samaritan Clinic (CSC) is the result of Dr. Kay Crosby’s calling and vision to create a medical home for uninsured and medically underserved adults in Coweta County. After twenty years practicing internal medicine, Kay left her private practice in 2008 to bring a free clinic to her hometown of Newnan. Generous support from the Coweta County Hospital Authority (building lease), Newnan Hospital Foundation (annual operating funds), and Piedmont Newnan Hospital (free lab and basic radiology services) provided a solid foundation on which to build.
Community support for the clinic has been tremendous. With the exception of three employees, all medical care and office support is provided by volunteers. The clinic’s annual cash operating expenses of $390,000 are provided by private donations from CSC Board members, other individuals, churches, corporations, foundations, civic groups and several annual events.
During its first year of operations, the clinic treated 485 unique individuals over the course of 2,150 patient visits. The top diagnoses include hypertension, high cholesterol, breathing disorders, diabetes, obesity and depression. The clinic strives to diagnose, treat and help patients manage what are often multiple chronic diseases.
The Coweta Samaritan Clinic is a non-profit Georgia corporation. The clinic is a 501c3 organization exempt from federal income tax and any donations to the clinic are tax deductible. The clinic is governed by a Board of Directors who serve without compensation. Current board members are listed below.
